What happens to a prisoner's finances when he is inside?

Okay, I'm not a prisoner, but I am just wondering what happens to his finances when he gets sent to prison. Obviously he can't work, so wont be earning, but assuming he has a mortgage, a credit card, utility bills etc, do these bills get frozen by the creditor until he comes out of prison, or do they just repossess his house from him?
