What happens if you no longer own a mobile home but are sent a tax bill anyway?

Our mobile home was repossessed last October. In January we received a tax bill for it, payment due May 1. We contacted tax office to let them know we no longer owned it but they said since passed some unknown deadline in March we have to pay anyway. What if we don't?
